In fact it states that every good girl and every perfect gift comes from the Father of light. Last week we discussed one of these gifts.,God gave His son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind (He- brews 2:9). Today, let us consider a second good girl that God has presented to mankind. God gave us the Bible. It claims for itself to be inspired of God (2 Ttmothy 3:16) and that it is a revelation that is complete enough to guide the man of God to every work he is expected to perform (2 "timothy 3:17). Peter says that it contains all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Yet, it is a book that generally goes unstudied. It is used as a "sermon book" by some preachers and as "proof texts" for various beliefs. It is not studied by some because they say that it is too difficult to be understood without some kind of heaven sent help. Thus, men are neglecting and ignoring one of the great- est gifts God has ever given to mankind. Of course, the great- est was Jesus but this Comes in second to that. These writings are not only tile revelation of the love of God and the life of Jesus b ar6 instmctious as to how GOd expects each of us to live. Arid especially so since Jesus .said (John 12:48) that they wdu ld be the start "dar. d by which all of us would be judged. How much time do you use in the study of the Bible? Is it a regular part of your time each day? Or, just when you "go to church.'?" Do we devote as much time to the Bible as we do to the news casts on the TV or to the front page of the newspa- per? It is good to be "up to date" on world affairs, to know what the weather is supposed to be tomorrow and to know how certain sports events ended. But is it not even more im- portant to know how God expects meto treat my fellow man? Paul told Timothy to "study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth " (2 Timothy 2:15). He was not to neglect his reading so that his spiritual development would be evident to all (1 Timothy 4:13-16). What do people see as your spiritual development? Can they see any difference in you (a self proclaimed Bible believer) and the atheist who denies the existence of God? If we appreciate the good gifts that GOd hasbestowed upon us we will use them as the Given intended. How are you using your Bible? -J.E Dancer, Jr. of 1235 Williams Street Beaver Dam, Kentucky 42320 Phone: 274-4451 RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH Hwy. 231 South Cromwell, KY ship service.
